Thursday night was the annual TU Law Talent Show, where classmates, professors and community members got to show off some amazing talents from song and dance to poetry readings and puppy talents. This charity event + silent auction was an amazing way to kick back and enjoy a night filled with laughter and awe at the amazing hidden talents the TU community has. PLUS, since it’s a charity event, you can feel good about yourself for taking a break from the books. I actually bid (and won!) my first silent auction for tickets to the ballet and almost went home with a puppy brought to the event by local animal shelter. It was a great start to an incredible weekend.
Friday was TU Law’s Minority Law Day, which is a full day of events including a mock trial, lunch, tour of the courthouse and Q&A at Connor & Winters law firm. I was lucky enough to get to participate in this event that brought together minority students from area neighborhoods to the law school to pique their interest in the field of law and to introduce them to successful minority lawyers and judges in the Tulsa area.
Finally on Saturday TU had their annual event, Barristers Ball, otherwise known as Law Prom. You’re probably thinking this sounds lame, but let me tell you it is anything but. It’s the one night of the year (if you live a normal student life) that you get to dress up in your absolute best, mingle with classmates and professors in a social setting, and dance the night away. It was such a blast even though the weather refused to cooperate.
The bad thing about such a fun filled weekend is that I didn’t get much time to prepare for Monday classes BUT just when I was beginning to think that maybe I shouldn’t have spent so much time away from the books this weekend, the snow started to fall and kept falling till TU had no choice but to declare a snow day (I know, I got lucky)
All in all it was a great weekend!
